Ukraine continues to demonstrate a positive balance in foreign trade in dairy products. In April 2025, the country increased export revenue in this sector, despite a slight decrease in volumes in physical terms compared to March. The dynamics of exports were influenced by the favorable euro exchange rate, seasonal fluctuations in production in Oceania and increased demand for certain types of products, ProAgro Group reports.
According to preliminary data from the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, 11.9 thousand tons of dairy products were exported in April. Although this is 3% less than in March, the volumes increased by 8% compared to the same month in 2024. Thus, export activity maintains steady growth in annual terms.
According to the Milk Producers Association, the main export items in April were: butter (33% of all deliveries), condensed milk and cream (26%), ice cream (18%) and cheeses (15%). It was these goods that provided a significant part of the foreign exchange earnings from the sale of Ukrainian dairy products abroad.
In monetary terms, April exports amounted to \.7 million, which is 2% more than in March 2025 and 46% more than in April of the previous year. In the first four months of 2025, total exports of dairy products reached 43.1 thousand tons, which is 16% more than last year. Export revenue during this period increased by 53% - to \8.5 million.
Imports of dairy products, on the contrary, are showing a decrease. In April 2025, Ukraine imported 5.2 thousand. tons of dairy products worth \.1 thousand. This is 10% less than in March and 0.4% less than in April 2024. In general, for January-March, import volumes amounted to 20.6 thousand tons (+9%) worth \2.3 million (+10%). The largest share of imports — 65% — traditionally accounted for cheeses.
Thus, the Ukrainian dairy sector continues to increase export capacity, maintaining a positive trade balance. This trend indicates the stable development of the industry and its competitiveness in the international market even in conditions of global instability.
