According to the EastFruit analysis for 2023, Ukraine is among the TOP 10 countries supplying fresh blueberries to the UK market. The UK is considered one of the leading countries for consumption of this berry in Europe, both overall and per capita.

According to the experts, Ukraine supplied 390 tons of fresh blueberries to the UK, which is 11% more than in 2022. The UK was the fifth largest market for Ukrainian blueberries after Poland, the Netherlands, Georgia and Germany.

Andriy Yarmak, economist at the FAO Investment Department, said that the UK is not yet a priority market for Ukrainian blueberry suppliers, as it requires large volumes of goods and stable supplies. To develop this market, producers should work together to standardize varieties, cultivation and processing methods. It is also important to invest in certification, which is only possible with large trading volumes.

The high prices for blueberries in the UK make this market attractive for Ukrainian exporters, but for a successful market entry it is necessary to work on product quality and develop effective marketing strategies.

Despite the challenges, including Russia's military aggression, Ukraine remains the world's leading berry export destination. Berry exports have increased by an average of 25% per year over the past five seasons, demonstrating the success of Ukraine's agribusiness development strategies.

However, Ukraine is facing challenges, including the loss of 100 million dollars worth of Ukrainian exports sold under the Polish brand. In order to improve the situation and maintain the competitiveness of the Ukrainian berry industry, it is necessary to actively implement effective marketing strategies and invest in technology, taking into account the unique agroclimatic conditions of berry growing in Ukraine.
