Ukraine continues to actively seek new opportunities for the safe transportation of grain. One of the options under consideration is the transportation of grain cargo through the territorial waters of NATO member states such as Romania and Bulgaria. This idea was expressed by Ukraine's ambassador to Turkey, Vasyl Bodnar, pointing to the serious risk posed by threats of shelling of port infrastructure and ships by Russia. Such threats affect insurance and the activities of shipping companies.
In order to mitigate the risks, the Ukrainian side has created a special fund to help ensure protection against possible dangers associated with the transportation of grain cargo. In addition, an alternative option of transporting grain through the territorial waters of Romania and Bulgaria is being considered, which could help minimize risks and ensure safe transportation. Ukraine is ready to cooperate with various companies and vessels to ensure safe transportation of grain cargo.
Ukraine has received offers of assistance with grain exports from Lithuania and Croatia. It is stated that 10 million tons of grain could be successfully transshipped in the port of Klaipeda, but the biggest problem is the delivery of grain to Lithuania. In addition, Croatia offers its railroad network and ports in the Adriatic Sea for grain exports from Ukraine.
In addition, Ukraine proposed to Turkey and the UN to continue the work of the Black Sea grain corridor, bypassing Russia. This project could be implemented with the involvement of Turkish warships, but Turkey considers this step to be very risky. The implementation of a new route for grain exports is important to ensure the security and stability of grain transportation in the context of the geopolitical tensions that still exist in the region.
