  • Green Recovery of Ukraine: EU allocates €21.5 million for environmental security and sustainable development
    Опубликовано: 2025-03-17 18:02:17

Ukraine and the European Union are launching a new joint project called EU4Green Recovery East, aimed at developing a circular economy, sustainable water management and environmental data. This is an important step towards an environmentally safe recovery of Ukraine, which should contribute to the conservation of natural resources and support sustainable development.

The launch of the program was announced by the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Svitlana Grinchuk, who emphasized that the program will last four years and its total budget is €21.5 million. These funds will be used to implement projects that will contribute to environmental security and the development of sustainable resource management methods in Ukraine.

Grinchuk noted that this project is important for Ukraine, as the country is on the verge of large-scale reconstruction, and the provision of such significant assistance opens up new opportunities for development and adaptation to European environmental security standards. The program will be an important element in the country's recovery from the conflict and economic difficulties.

One of the key components of the project is the development of a draft law "On Green Recovery", which is currently being prepared jointly with UNDP. This draft law will comply with the principles of the EU Green Taxonomy and will become the basis of the strategy for sustainable reconstruction of Ukraine. The strategy provides for the use of environmentally friendly technologies and effective methods for the country's recovery, taking into account the principles of sustainable development.

The EU4Green Recovery East initiative also creates new opportunities for Ukrainian business. It aims to increase the efficiency of natural resource use, support innovative green technologies and create new jobs in Ukraine. These steps will help the country achieve higher standards of environmental safety and sustainable development.

At the moment, the development of a work plan has already begun to adapt the program's activities to the specific needs of Ukraine. Technical meetings with experts in relevant fields are planned in the near future to discuss further steps and adjust the program to Ukrainian realities.

Thanks to this project, Ukraine gets a chance for a stable and environmentally friendly recovery that will meet modern European standards.
