There is a tendency for prices to decrease on the Ukrainian white cabbage market. The main factor in this development was a significant increase in the supply of products, which caused a decrease in trading activity.
According to EastFruit analysts, at the end of last week farmers began to actively sell cabbage stocks, which they had previously held back in anticipation of a further increase in prices. However, the quality of vegetables in storage began to deteriorate, forcing farmers to reconsider their strategy and enter the market with offers.
Such a surge in supply inevitably affected prices. If since mid-January there has been a gradual increase in the cost of white cabbage, now producers are forced to reduce it in order to sell their products before they lose their marketable appearance.
A significant part of farmers who have high-quality cabbage are still refraining from selling. They expect demand to increase towards the end of the month, when competitors' stocks will be reduced, and prices may rise again.
According to experts, further price dynamics will depend on weather conditions, market supply volumes and changes in consumer demand. If farmers are unable to quickly sell existing stocks, this may lead to even greater price reductions.
Thus, the current price decline is a natural reaction of the market to excess supply, and further development of the situation will depend on the balance between demand and the ability to store products in proper conditions.
