In January 2025, Ukraine recorded a growth of gross domestic product (GDP) by 1.5%. The main drivers of economic growth remain the construction industry, the processing industry and domestic trade, which continue to stimulate positive dynamics in the country's economy.
This was reported by First Deputy Minister of Economy Oleksiy Sobolev, specifying that although the growth rate decreased compared to previous months, in particular due to a decrease in the activity of export-oriented sectors, the economy continues to show stable results thanks to a high level of budget financing. This financing partially compensated for the decrease in the volume of exports of goods, which became one of the main factors of the slowdown in growth rates.
The key factors contributing to economic growth in January were the restoration of the country's critical infrastructure, as well as active work on major repairs and reconstruction of roads. At the same time, housing construction made a significant contribution to the development of the economy, which continues to be an important component of the national economy.
An important factor that positively affected production was the high level of purchases of defense-industrial complex products, which contributed to an increase in production volumes in mechanical engineering. This became possible thanks to significant state investments in the defense industry sector, which support production at the proper level.
However, not all sectors of the economy are showing positive results. In agriculture, a decrease in livestock production was observed due to an increase in production costs. In addition, there was a decline in the extractive industry and the transport sector, which is associated with the shutdown of mines in the Donetsk region located on the front line, as well as power outages caused by massive missile attacks.
In December 2024, GDP growth was 1.7%, which is a slightly higher figure compared to January. According to the results of 2024, the Ukrainian economy grew by 4%, and in November the growth rate slowed down slightly, amounting to 0.9% compared to November 2023.
Taking into account the forecast indicators, the state budget for 2025 foresees economic growth at the level of 2.7%. This indicates moderate but stable development, despite the difficulties faced by individual sectors of the economy.
