Ukrainian producers seek to expand their presence on the Turkish market, in particular through the export of cattle and small cattle. In this regard, high-level negotiations are underway between the two countries, and a meeting of government officials, representatives of specialized associations and businesses is planned in the near future.
During his visit to Turkey, the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Vitaliy Koval held talks with his Turkish counterpart, the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Ibrahim Yumakli. The main topic of the meeting was the expansion of trade cooperation in the agricultural sector, in particular the possibility of Ukrainian producers entering the Turkish meat market.
According to Koval, the key issue that needs to be resolved for full-fledged livestock exports is veterinary standards. “We discussed with Ibrahim Yumakly the need to coordinate all veterinary requirements so that Ukrainian producers can supply their products to Turkey. This is an important step for the establishment of meat exports,” the minister noted.
In addition, during the negotiations, the Ukrainian side raised the issue of storing agricultural products. Today, Ukraine loses about 35% of its grown vegetables due to the lack of specialized storage facilities. In this regard, Vitaliy Koval called on Turkish business to join the development of a network of vegetable storage facilities in Ukraine, which would significantly reduce product losses and improve their quality during export.
Special attention during the meeting was paid to the humanitarian initiative "Grain From Ukraine", within the framework of which Turkey actively supports the supply of Ukrainian grain to African countries. Vitaliy Koval thanked the Turkish government for participating in this project, especially in helping Syria. He also emphasized that, in addition to flour, African countries need stable supplies of wheat, oil and sugar, and Turkey can become an important partner in the further implementation of this project.
Thus, cooperation between Ukraine and Turkey in the agricultural sector will not only contribute to the development of trade, but also help resolve important humanitarian issues. Further negotiations and the development of appropriate mechanisms will contribute to the entry of Ukrainian producers into new markets and the attraction of investments in agriculture.
