In 2024, Ukrainian sugar producers set a new historical record, significantly increasing export volumes. In total, 746.3 thousand tons of sugar were sent to foreign markets, which brought Ukraine $ 419 million. This result is the largest since the beginning of sugar export statistics, which have been kept since 1997, when the National Association of Sugar Producers of Ukraine ("Ukrsugar") was founded.
This significant achievement testifies to the stable development of the Ukrainian sugar industry, which is able to increase production and supply of products to international markets. Given the challenges of recent years, in particular economic and political circumstances, export growth is an important indicator of the successful operation of the industry. Ukrainian sugar producers continue to improve the quality of their products, which allows them to occupy competitive positions in the global market.
During 2024, about 40% of all sugar exports were sent to the countries of the European Union. This market segment remains key for Ukrainian producers due to stable demand for sweet products in the EU countries. European buyers note the high quality of Ukrainian sugar, which allows maintaining strong positions in this region.
At the same time, the main export destinations to the world market were the countries of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA region), as well as North Macedonia. The growth of supplies to these countries was an important factor in achieving a record export volume. It can be noted that Ukrainian-made sugar is in demand among consumers in these regions due to its affordable price and high quality.
Ukrainian sugar refineries are actively increasing production capacities and working to maintain and develop their international partnerships. This allows them to increase export volumes and ensure the competitiveness of Ukrainian products in world markets.
In general, 2024 became an important stage for the development of the Ukrainian sugar industry. The established export record is evidence of the effective work of Ukrainian producers, who are able to meet the requirements of international consumers and ensure stable economic results for the country.
This success also confirms the importance of the sugar industry in the economy of Ukraine, as the export potential allows not only to ensure stable profits, but also to promote the development of other industries related to the production and processing of agricultural products.
