The Ukrainian sugar market is experiencing a price increase trend. Over the past week, the cost of the product has increased by 1–1.5 UAH/kg, and currently fluctuates within 23–24.50 UAH/kg. These changes are associated with both domestic and external factors.
According to the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council, the stabilization of demand in the domestic market and the gradual resumption of exports have become the main drivers of the price increase. Ukrainian sugar producers are restoring their position in foreign markets, which contributes to an increase in prices. The main export destinations remain Turkey and African countries, but there are prospects for entering markets outside Europe.
Experts emphasize that despite the difficulties caused by the blockade of exports to the European Union, Ukraine was able to find alternative supply routes through third countries. Such a strategy helped stabilize the situation on the market. "This scheme is working effectively, and we are already seeing positive results for the industry," analysts note.
From January 1, 2025, a partial opening of the European market for Ukrainian sugar is expected. This step may significantly change the price dynamics. Experts predict that with the launch of the new season, prices may reach last year's level - 29-32 thousand UAH/t including VAT. This will be an important incentive for domestic producers, especially in conditions of high competition.
The situation is also influenced by global factors. In particular, the reduction in sugar production in Brazil, which is the largest player in the world market, opens up new opportunities for Ukrainian producers. They can strengthen their positions and expand their presence in the international arena.
Thus, despite the local increase in prices, the prospects for the Ukrainian sugar industry look promising. The resumption of exports, the opening of new markets, and the possibility of entering the European market in 2025 create favorable conditions for the development of the industry and increasing the competitiveness of Ukrainian sugar.
