The Ukrainian government is taking steps to strengthen social support for the population. In particular, the Cabinet of Ministers has decided to introduce a pilot project to provide additional support to Ukrainian families for the purchase of solid household heating fuel. The government plans to amend the subsidy program for 2023-2024 and approve its procedure.
According to Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal and the government's representative in the Verkhovna Rada, Taras Melnychuk, the relevant initiative of the Ministry of Social Policy was supported during a government meeting on November 7.
According to the announced changes, the maximum amount of the subsidy for firewood will more than double to UAH 16,200 per year for one family. This initiative is aimed at supporting families who heat their homes with solid fuel, especially in regions where natural gas is not available.
"The state provides a resource for heating where there is no possibility to use gas. Ukrainian families will now receive much more money to buy firewood to ensure warmth and comfort," the Prime Minister emphasized.
The government plans to allocate funds for this project from the state budget and from other sources that do not contradict the law. In particular, funds may come from abroad, subject to the consent of Ukraine's partners, such as foreign governments, international organizations and donor agencies.
This initiative is aimed at improving the lives of citizens and supporting families in difficult life circumstances. The Cabinet of Ministers continues to take steps to ease the social burden on the population and improve the quality of life of Ukrainians.
