  • Garlic in Ukraine has risen in price by 15%: what affects prices
    Опубликовано: 2023-11-06 15:05:50

The cost of garlic in Ukraine continues to rise and has reached a 15% increase since November 2022. Such data is provided by the Lviv wholesale market of agricultural products "Shuvar", which indicates a constant increase in prices for this product.

Garlic prices in Ukraine have been rising for the past five years. According to the Shuvar market, in November 2023, the price for 1 kilogram of garlic ranged from UAH 115 to 130.

According to Shuvar market operators, the reason for this price increase is the reduction in the area under garlic plantations over the past few years. Thus, production volumes are decreasing, which is the main reason for the annual increase in prices for this product.

It is important to note that despite the reduction in the area under garlic, the volume of domestic garlic sales increased by more than 20% compared to pre-war 2021. This indicates that there is no shortage of garlic on the market yet, due to high yields and sufficient stocks in storage.

It should be noted that one of the reasons for the rise in garlic prices is the increased demand among the population. Farmers are also increasing the volume of quality products for storage in anticipation of a favorable price. The simple formula "reduced supply = higher price" is valid in the garlic market.

The price increase is also attributed to economic factors, such as rising production costs, energy costs and currency fluctuations. Despite the price increase, retailers' interest in Ukrainian garlic remains strong.
