A noticeable decline in prices for imported tomatoes, in particular greenhouse tomatoes from Turkey, has been recorded on the Ukrainian vegetable market. Over the past week, the cost of tomatoes has decreased significantly, which is associated with changes in the dynamics of demand and supply. This is evidenced by fresh data published by analysts of the EastFruit project.
According to the results of daily monitoring, as of the current week, Turkish greenhouse tomatoes are sold on the Ukrainian market at a price of 65 to 85 hryvnias per kilogram. This is equivalent to $1.57–2.06 per kilogram, which is 10% cheaper compared to the previous week.
The general trend shows an even more noticeable decline: on average, the price of imported tomatoes has already decreased by 19% compared to the beginning of April 2024. Such a price drop is usually not typical for this time of year, which is of particular interest to analysts and traders.
The main reason for this development was a significant slowdown in the pace of sales of Turkish tomatoes in Ukraine. At the same time, there is an increase in supply volumes, which has created a surplus of products in warehouses. Sellers are forced to respond to new market conditions by reducing selling prices in order to avoid the formation of stocks of unsold vegetables.
Such a drop in prices can be beneficial for end consumers, as it allows them to purchase high-quality imported products at a more affordable price. At the same time, this creates new challenges for suppliers and wholesalers - the need to quickly adapt sales strategies and inventory management.
The situation is expected to remain dynamic in the coming weeks. Further price fluctuations will depend on supply volumes, consumer reactions and competitive activity on the domestic vegetable market of Ukraine.
