Potatoes in Ukraine are going through a period of price increases after a long period of price stability. Over the past week, the average price of this product on the Ukrainian market has increased by 13%, according to analysts of the EastFruit project.
Ukrainian farmers produce limited volumes of potatoes, and they store most of their produce. This practice has led to an increase in prices in this segment.
Today, Ukrainian farmers sell potatoes at prices ranging from 7 to 10 hryvnias per kilogram, and the price has increased by an average of 13% over the past week.
The increased interest of wholesalers and households in purchasing potatoes remains the main reason for the rise in prices. In some regions, poor weather conditions make it difficult to harvest potatoes, which also contributes to the price increase.
Analysts point out that the supply of quality products on the market is limited due to the fact that some large farms have decided to hold back sales of high-quality potatoes in anticipation of further price increases in this segment.
It should be noted that today the price of potatoes in Ukraine is on average twice as high as at the end of October 2022. As the main market players expect further price increases in this segment, they are in no hurry to sell the main volumes of potatoes.
According to Yaroslav Andreyev, Executive Director of the Ukrainian Association of Potato Producers (UAPP), Ukraine has been enjoying a good potato harvest for three years in a row due to favorable weather conditions.
