  • White cabbage has fallen sharply in price: what is happening with vegetable prices in Ukraine
    Опубликовано: 2025-05-01 13:05:11

The Ukrainian market has seen a significant decrease in the cost of last year's white cabbage. According to analysts from the EastFruit project, the current week was marked by a decrease in prices to the level of 40–48 UAH per kilogram, although a few days ago this vegetable was sold for up to 52 UAH/kg.

Experts call the reason for such a sharp decrease in price a rapid deterioration in the quality of stored cabbage due to a long storage period, as well as a decrease in consumer demand. This has created a situation where farmers are forced to reduce prices in order to somehow sell the remaining products.

Price monitoring shows that in just a few days the average cost of cabbage has decreased by about 10%. However, even after the drop, the price now remains 6.4 times higher than the same indicator last year, which indicates a continuation of the general trend of higher prices for vegetables on the Ukrainian market.

EastFruit experts predict that the price of cabbage will continue to fall. The main reason for this will be the increase in the supply of early vegetables of the new harvest, which are gradually entering the market. At the same time, farmers are facing difficulties in selling stored products, which also puts pressure on prices.

Against this background, it is worth noting the opposite situation with other vegetables. In particular, the cost of table beets continues to grow - recently, prices have risen by another 16%, and now beets are sold within 22–32 UAH per kilogram. The increase in price is associated with limited supply against the background of stable demand.

In addition, prices for quality carrots have increased in Ukraine. This vegetable is becoming more expensive due to a combination of high demand from wholesale and retail buyers and a shortage of quality products. This situation demonstrates that the vegetable market in Ukraine remains unstable and reacts extremely sensitively to changes in demand and supply.
