The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has put forward an initiative to create grain hubs in vulnerable regions, in particular in African ports, to prevent shocks in the global food market. This was reported by the press service of the President's Office.
According to Zelenskyy, this idea is already being discussed, and the start of cooperation could lead to sustainability and security in global food chains.
"We can create hubs that can provide millions of tons of grain per year in particularly sensitive areas, such as African ports. We have already started negotiations on this issue. Regardless of the difficulties we face, cooperation can bring solutions," Zelenskyy said.
The President emphasized that Ukraine remains committed to the role of a guarantor of global food security.
"No one expected us to be able to tear the Russian fleet away from the Black Sea waters and to allocate more space for the Black Sea Grain Initiative and the humanitarian initiative Grain from Ukraine," he said.
According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine successfully exports products to numerous countries, including Algeria, Djibouti, Egypt, Kenya, Libya, Lebanon, Morocco, Somalia, Tunisia, Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam, Iraq, Oman, Pakistan, Turkey, Yemen and others. In addition, food is supplied to Ethiopia and Sudan through transit ports. In total, we are talking about 32 million tons of food exported from Ukraine.
