Most European Union countries are against unilateral restrictions on imports of Ukrainian grain imposed by some EU member states. Spanish Minister of Agriculture Luis Planas Pujades expressed the opinion that such bans are illegal from the point of view of European legislation and they require attention of the European Commission.

Currently, many EU countries are expressing their support for the European Commission's decision to ban Ukrainian grain exports. In particular, agriculture ministers from western EU countries emphasize the importance of solidarity with Ukraine and note that grain accounts for a significant portion of Ukrainian farmers' income. They strongly oppose the unilateral restrictions imposed by Poland, Slovakia, and Hungary.

Ukrainian farmers have been able to export grain through neighboring countries using the so-called "Solidarity Routes" since the beginning of Russian aggression, as Ukraine did not have access to its usual seaports on the Black Sea. During the conflict, about 60% of Ukraine's grain was exported in transit through alternative routes to the EU, while 40% was shipped through the Black Sea under the grain deal.

French Minister of Agriculture Marc Fenot criticized the unilateral restriction of Ukrainian grain imports and emphasized that it calls into question European solidarity. He emphasized the importance of unity and the fundamental importance of the EU single market.

The minister also noted that EU agriculture ministers are working on innovations aimed at reducing the burden on farmers and easing the situation.
