According to the National Research Center "Institute of Agrarian Economics", in August, prices for the main types of meat fluctuated in Ukrainian retail chains, reflecting the current situation on the meat market.
Chicken remains the most affordable meat on the Ukrainian market. In August, the price of chicken drumsticks and thighs decreased by 5.8-9.7%. Chicken drumsticks cost UAH 74.95 per kilogram, and thighs cost UAH 100.45 per kilogram.
At the same time, prices for beef, including ribs and goulash, increased by 0.6-0.9% compared to the beginning of summer. Ribs cost UAH 160.48 per kilogram, and goulash cost UAH 245.16 per kilogram.
Natalia Kopytets, leading researcher at the Department of Pricing and Agricultural Market of the National Research Center "Institute of Agrarian Economics", points out a slight increase in the price of certain types of pork in August compared to June 2023. Thus, prices for pork ribs, underbelly, neck and shoulder increased from 0.8% to 2.4%. However, pork brisket and salted lard fell by 6.0% and 6.9%, respectively.
According to the expert, despite slight price fluctuations in August, with rising production costs, such as higher feed, fuel and electricity prices, meat prices may rise by up to 5% in October-November 2023.
Ukrainian consumers continue to prefer chicken due to its availability, which is reflected in market trends and consumer demand.
