Raspberry prices in Ukraine are falling sharply. The main reason for this negative price trend is the rapid increase in the volume of raspberry harvest of remontant varieties from local farms. This was reported by analysts of the EastFruit project.
According to the daily monitoring of the project, Ukrainian gardeners are currently selling raspberries to the fresh market in the range of 50-90 UAH per kilogram. This is on average 20% cheaper than at the end of last week.
"Last week, the limited supply of raspberries on the Ukrainian market led to a several-week rise in prices for this berry. However, this week almost all producers started harvesting, which led to a significant increase in the supply of raspberries and lower prices," analysts said.
At the same time, the prices at which raspberries leave the farm in Ukraine are already on average 30% lower than in the same period last year. Most key market participants predict further price declines in this segment with a progressive increase in the volume of raspberry harvest from local farms.
The decline in raspberry prices may affect the welfare of gardeners and the economy of the sector. Analysts recommend that producers pay more attention to crop diversification to reduce their vulnerability to such sudden changes in the market.
