  • Poland will not give up its intention to extend the ban on imports of Ukrainian agricultural products

Poland will not give up its intention to extend the ban on imports of Ukrainian agricultural products not only from Ukraine but also directly outside the European Union. This was stated by the Polish Minister of Agriculture and Development Robert Telus.

Robert Telus said that the European Commission's position to temporarily ban grain imports from Ukraine to Poland and other countries bordering Ukraine has no fundamental arguments and is political in nature. Poland hopes to persuade other interested countries to join the ban, as it will help prevent the negative effects of extending the ban on Ukrainian agricultural products on the agricultural sector.

The European Commission has decided not to extend the temporary ban on grain imports from Ukraine to Poland and other countries from September 15. However, Robert Telus believes that other countries will make similar decisions on the ban, as some have already expressed their willingness to join the initiative.

Despite the difficult geopolitical and economic conditions, Poland believes it is important to continue cooperation with Ukraine. Robert Telus noted that the joint work of the two countries should help increase the efficiency of transit of Ukrainian grain through Poland and the Baltic States.

During the meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Mykola Solskyi, the sides discussed how to improve the transit of Ukrainian grain through Poland and the Baltic States. The Polish side has proposed shifting some of the grain control and inspection to countries such as Lithuania and Latvia.

According to media reports, the European Commission claims that there are no funds to cover the additional transportation costs for the transit of Ukrainian agricultural products. At the same time, Poland hopes that joint efforts to improve grain transit will help ensure balanced and beneficial cooperation between the countries.

The issue of the ban on Ukrainian agricultural products outside the EU remains topical and controversial. Poland expresses its readiness to extend the ban, relying on the political justifications of the European Commission. However, the countries are looking for ways to improve cooperation in grain transit in order to achieve favorable conditions for all parties.
