In July, retail prices for pork and chilled pork semi-finished products in Ukrainian supermarkets slightly decreased compared to June.

According to the results of the monthly monitoring of prices of national retail chains, the press service of the Pig Producers of Ukraine Association noted that in early July the average price of a kilogram of pork was 207 UAH/kg, but in the third decade of the month this figure dropped to 205 UAH/kg.

Such limited price reductions were seen in certain positions: the price of brisket decreased by 1.2% (to 181.3 UAH/kg), pork shoulder lost 0.7% compared to June figures (193.1 UAH/kg), and loin decreased by 0.6% (227.15 UAH/kg).

Other and more popular meat items showed fluctuations of 0.7-1.7% compared to last month.

Analysts of the Pig Producers of Ukraine Association explain such dynamics of retail prices partly by changes in purchase prices for live pigs. It is noted that purchase prices in July were 3.4% lower than a month earlier, which affected retail prices.

The following month also showed an increase in prices for other types of meat in Ukrainian supermarkets: chicken and turkey went up by 1%, and beef by 2.8%.

In general, during the first month of summer, pork prices in retail chains increased by 3.4 UAH/kg or 1.7% on average. At the same time, the decline in prices for some items partially reflected the situation on the slaughterhouse pig market.
