  • Onion prices in Ukraine are falling
    Опубликовано: 2023-08-03 11:07:54

This week, prices for newly harvested onions in Ukraine fell below the level seen last year. According to analysts of the EastFruit project, the cost of this product is currently 12-18 UAH per kilogram.

Experts note that farmers are seriously concerned about the current situation, as harvesting of late varieties of onions has not yet begun, and demand for this product remains low, even amid rapidly declining prices.

As of today, onion prices have already dropped to UAH 12-18 per kilogram, which is 15% cheaper on average than at the end of the last business week.

"Key market players explain this further reduction in price by the fact that almost all Ukrainian farms have started harvesting onions, and therefore the supply of this product on the market has increased rapidly. However, the demand, according to farmers, remains very low, and this price reduction, unfortunately, does not affect sales," analysts emphasize.

Thus, the price of onions in Ukraine is already 36% lower on average than in early August 2022.

"However, many market operators are confident that such low prices are only a temporary phenomenon, and closer to mid-September, prices for quality onions may start to grow rapidly when resellers start buying these products for storage," analysts predict.

The downward trend in prices for cucumbers on the Ukrainian market also continues. Currently, greenhouse plants offer cucumbers for UAH 10-20 per kilogram.
