  • Slovakia is ready to help Ukraine export grain, but not to the detriment of its farmers
    Опубликовано: 2023-07-28 11:03:11

Slovakia is ready to support Ukraine in exporting grain to world markets, noting that this assistance will not affect the country's own agricultural sector.

Slovak Minister of Agriculture Jozef Bires expressed this position in an interview with the TASR news agency, according to Evropeiska Pravda.

The representative of the Slovak government proposed the creation of "solidarity corridors" using road, rail and water routes to transport grain from Ukraine to world markets.

"Slovakia seeks to provide maximum support to Ukraine in the field of infrastructure to ensure the easiest possible transportation of grain to where it is needed most," Minister Biresh emphasized.

It is noted that this summer Slovakia expects the largest grain harvest in the last five years, and grain production will be 12% higher than the average for the same period.

Earlier, Polish Minister of Agriculture Robert Telus said that Poland is ready to take unilateral measures to ban imports of agricultural products from Ukraine if the EU refuses to extend the current restrictions.

It is also worth mentioning that Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki threatens not to open the border for grain products from Ukraine after September 15. Five Central European member states of the European Union - Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia - have asked the European Commission to extend the ban.
