The Government of Ukraine has adopted a decision that will help establish a transparent and effective mechanism for the certification of seeds and planting material. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved Resolution No. 637 "On Amendments to the Procedure for Certification, Issuance and Cancellation of Certificates for Seeds and/or Planting Material".

"The Resolution was developed to fulfill Ukraine's European integration commitments to improve the procedure for assessing the conformity of seeds and planting material in determining their varietal qualities. In particular, it simplifies the conditions for seed and nursery farming and the implementation of competition policy during field evaluation as part of the certification procedure," the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food said.

In particular, the resolution provides for the following changes:

Enabling agricultural entrepreneurs to conclude agreements on field evaluation of seed crops or plantations without involving a state certification body, directly with an independent (private) auditor (agronomist-inspector).

Establishing a requirement for the auditor to maintain the confidentiality of information received in the course of performing his/her duties and his/her independence from commercial and other interests of the seed and plantation business

Establishment of personal responsibility of the auditor for the accuracy of the information included in the issued field assessment reports and acts of rejection of seed crops and perennial plantings.
