From April 29, 2025, updated requirements for laboratory control of milk and dairy products sold in agri-food markets came into effect in Ukraine. The goal of the innovations is to increase the level of food safety and protect consumer health. This was reported by the State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection (State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection).

From now on, sellers of milk and dairy products in the markets are required to carry an updated package of documents confirming the sanitary and veterinary safety of the products. First of all, this concerns a veterinary or identification document that certifies the well-being of the dairy farm in terms of epizootic diseases and the state of animal health.

The specified document must clearly indicate the date and results of animal examinations for subclinical mastitis, vaccination against anthrax, as well as diagnostics of diseases such as tuberculosis, leukemia and brucellosis. Without this data, the sale of dairy products in the markets will be prohibited.

Additionally, each seller must provide an expert opinion containing the results of laboratory testing of raw milk or products made from it. This document must be issued by an accredited laboratory located directly at the agri-food market.

The State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection emphasizes that the new rules will allow for more effective control of the quality of dairy products, especially given the popularity of natural products among consumers. This is expected to reduce cases of food poisoning and infection with infectious diseases associated with low-quality milk.

This decision has become a logical step in reforming the food control system in Ukraine, which is gradually approaching European standards. Strengthening the requirements will also stimulate farmers to improve the level of veterinary care for animals and implement good production practices.
