Ukraine has every chance to become a world leader in nut growing

In recent years, Ukraine has been gaining increasing popularity as a country with great potential for the development of nut growing. The existing natural and climatic conditions and a large area of ​​agricultural land provide opportunities for large-scale nut growing, which allows the country to become a competitive player in the world market.

Ukraine has significant natural advantages for growing various types of nuts. The climate in the country, in particular in the southern and central regions, is quite favorable for the development of crops such as walnut, hazelnut and hazel. According to data, there are more than 200 thousand hectares of land in Ukraine that are used for growing nuts, and this area continues to grow. At the same time, most of the nut orchards, as before, are focused on the domestic market.

Ukraine is now one of the leading suppliers of walnuts in Europe, and in recent years the country has significantly increased its export of nuts. In 2023, the volume of walnut exports from Ukraine amounted to more than 60 thousand tons, which made the country one of the largest exporters of this product in the world. This became possible due to the development of high-yielding varieties of nuts, as well as the introduction of modern growing and harvesting technologies.

However, Ukraine's greatest potential in this sector is associated with the possibility of expanding the area under walnut orchards. Compared to other countries, Ukraine has free land for agricultural development, and walnut farming itself can become an important part of the agricultural industry. Forecasts indicate that by 2030, the area occupied by walnuts in Ukraine may double or even triple, which will allow the country to significantly increase production and export volumes.

Currently, not only traditional types of nuts for our country are actively developing in Ukraine, but also new, less common ones. For example, hazelnuts, which were previously grown mainly in Mediterranean countries, are now also actively cultivated in Ukraine. In addition, Ukrainian farmers are increasingly investing in growing organic nuts, which allows them to occupy a niche in international markets, where the demand for organic products is constantly growing.

On the other hand, the Ukrainian government and local authorities are already actively working to support nut farming. There are state programs aimed at providing financial support to farmers who wish to start or expand their nut production. In addition, specialized agricultural enterprises and research institutions are developing new technologies and methods of growing nuts, which allows achieving high yields even in changing climate conditions.

Thanks to the growing demand for nuts in the world and the development of the relevant infrastructure, Ukraine has every chance of becoming one of the leading suppliers of nut products to the global market. Combined with government initiatives and high interest from investors, Ukraine can take a leading position in the global nut business, which will positively affect the country's economy and create new jobs in the agricultural sector.
