  • The Verkhovna Rada proposes to ban the sale of energy drinks to teenagers: details of the bill
    Опубликовано: 2025-02-20 13:09:02

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has registered bill No. 13024, which provides for the introduction of state regulation of the production and circulation of energy drinks. In particular, the authors of the document propose to ban the sale of energy drinks to persons under the age of 18, believing that this will help preserve the health of young people.

According to the explanatory note to the bill, energy drinks have now become widespread among different age groups. They are actively consumed by people of different social status and age categories. The chemical composition of energy drinks, which contains caffeine, taurine, guarana and other stimulants, provides a quick effect of vivacity, improving mood and performance. However, their effect on the body can have negative consequences, especially for young people.

The authors of the bill, MPs Serhiy Hryvko and Volodymyr Kreidenko, cite research data indicating the health hazards of energy drinks. They note that some European countries, such as Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland, have already banned the sale of energy drinks to children due to their high caffeine and other stimulant content. Ukraine is also proposing to take a step in this direction by restricting the sale of such drinks to adolescents.

The main goal of the bill is to reduce the negative impact of energy drinks on the body of young people. The initiators believe that the ban will reduce the risks of cardiovascular diseases, reduce the likelihood of developing addiction to caffeine and other stimulants, and avoid problems with the nervous system and sleep. In addition, it will contribute to the formation of healthy habits in young people and help maintain their long-term health.

The MPs who supported the bill note that its adoption will improve the safety and quality of energy drinks produced and sold in Ukraine. It will also be a step towards protecting the health of young people and helping to reduce the harmful effects of such products on the population as a whole.

The bill is currently being discussed in parliament, and if it is adopted, it will be an important step towards reforming the regulation of the energy drinks market in Ukraine.
