A noticeable decrease in carrot prices was recorded in Ukraine this week. According to weekly monitoring data, the cost of root vegetables decreased by an average of 10% since the beginning of the week.
According to analysts of the EastFruit project, the main reason for this phenomenon was the deterioration of the quality of carrot stocks in farms. In particular, this problem most acutely affected those producers whose storage facilities are not equipped with modern storage systems. Because of this, the number of rejected products significantly exceeds last year's level.
Farmers are forced to actively sort through stocks in order to avoid losses associated with the rapid spoilage of carrots. This approach leads to an oversaturation of the market with products of average and low quality, which, in turn, creates additional pressure on prices.
Despite the limited supply of high-quality carrots, producers are forced to reduce selling prices. This is due to low demand among buyers for vegetables with mediocre characteristics. Even in such conditions, sales remain a challenge for farmers who are trying to find a balance between quality and price.
Experts note that the situation is complicated by general market conditions, including seasonal fluctuations in demand and competition among suppliers. However, farmers with modern storage facilities retain a competitive advantage, as their products better meet market requirements.
Thus, the current decline in carrot prices demonstrates the importance of investing in modern storage technologies. For producers, this is not only a guarantee of minimizing losses, but also an opportunity to work more stably even in difficult market conditions.
