Winter crops in Ukraine: vegetation restoration in some regions, - Ukrhydrometeorological Center

Ukrhydrometeorological Center reported that in Ukraine, winter crops in some territories have already resumed their vegetation. Weather conditions in recent weeks have contributed to an improvement in the condition of plants, which allowed them to gradually recover after the winter period. However, the situation with yields remains ambiguous and depends on many factors, in particular on further weather conditions.

According to Ukrhydrometeorological Center, the spring vegetation of winter crops in the regions of the country began after the air temperature rose to favorable levels. This allowed the plants to break their winter dormancy and made it possible to activate their development. It is known that most winter grain crops, such as wheat and barley, survived the winter in satisfactory condition, but their further adaptation to the conditions of the spring period will remain in question due to possible temperature fluctuations.

Additionally, due to weather fluctuations, different speeds of vegetation restoration are observed in certain regions of Ukraine. The greatest recovery of plants was recorded in the central and southern regions, where the temperature remains within 5-7 degrees Celsius. At the same time, in the northern and western regions, the situation is somewhat more complicated due to cold nights and morning frosts.

Experts from the Ukrhydrometeorological Center note that weather conditions during February and March 2024 became favorable for plant development, however, possible small frosts in early April may slow down the recovery process. Given this, farmers should closely monitor weather changes in order to minimize possible crop losses.

In general, at the moment, winter crops in Ukraine are in the phase of active vegetation in areas with a sufficient temperature level. However, further development depends on maintaining stable weather conditions, in particular, moderate temperatures at night and sufficient soil moisture. If these factors remain favorable, a good harvest can be expected.

No less important is the issue of soil preparation for the new growing season. Specialists of the Ukrhydrometeorological Center note that timely cultivation of fields and compliance with agrotechnical requirements can significantly improve the condition of winter crops. However, it is also worth considering that possible bad weather or sudden changes in temperature can pose certain risks to the harvest.
