In the Poltava region, there is a 20-30% decrease in the yield of late cereals compared to previous years. The corn harvest is expected to last until November, although this process is usually delayed until the end of December. Currently, the grain that comes from the fields has a low moisture content - only 12-14%. This led to the fact that the dryers at the Hadiatsky elevator of the Agrotrade company remain idle this season, reports Kostyantyn Vorona, director of the company's production and technical department, in an interview for the ProAgro Group publication with reference to Elevatorist.com.
Vorona also noted that the quality of grain has undergone significant changes. "Deterioration of soybeans: it hardened and did not acquire its characteristic yellow color. The shell is yellow on top, and green on the inside. At the same time, soybeans have already dried up and will not develop anymore," he said.
At the Hadiatsky elevator of "Agrotrade" they claim that this year's harvests are significantly below average. As a result, less grain is delivered to granaries — about 25-30% less than usual. If earlier, almost two revolutions were carried out at the elevator per season, this year the situation has changed. "In the current conditions, it will be good if we can make one turn," the director emphasized.
These changes in grain yield and quality are caused by a variety of factors, including weather conditions affecting the growing season of crops. Low moisture content of the grain, although it contributes to faster processing, has a negative effect on its quality, especially in the case of soybeans.
Experts believe that a decrease in the volume of harvest and a decrease in quality can have serious consequences for the agricultural sector of the region, because it will affect the competitiveness of Ukrainian products on international markets. Poltava Oblast, which is traditionally famous for its harvests, is facing challenges this year that require urgent solutions.
Given these circumstances, farmers in the region seek to adapt to new conditions in order to minimize losses and ensure production efficiency in the following seasons.
