In September 2024, Romania plans to open an additional anchorage in the port of Constanta, which will facilitate the export of Ukrainian grain. This was announced by the general director of "Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company" (UDP) Dmytro Moskalenko.

During another online meeting in the Quint format, with the participation of representatives of the European Commission, the US government, Romania, Moldova and Ukraine, Romanian colleagues announced the opening of this new parking lot. This decision was a response to the need for additional capacities for transshipment of Ukrainian grain through Romanian ports.

In 2023, the UDP actively contributed to the creation of the first anchorage in Constanta due to overloading of the port's terminals. At that time, there were up to 600 barges with grain in the port, and the wait for unloading lasted 30-40 days. The new parking lot should reduce these delays and improve logistics efficiency.

The UDP fleet will once again start transporting grain from Ukrainian ports to Constanta. "The appearance of the anchorage is an opportunity to strengthen the competitive advantages of the Danube export direction. Now we are waiting for the conditions," said Dmytro Moskalenko.

He emphasized that preserving the export of Ukrainian grains through the Danube is possible only if all components of the logistics chain are cheaper. According to him, compared to last year, freight rates for river transportation from Ukraine to Romania have decreased by three times.

In addition, UDP is working on reducing the tariff for railway transportation to Izmail. Moskalenko noted that the success of the project depends on lowering the cost of cargo handling. The joint task is to ensure that the export of grain through the Danube withstands competition with Odessa ports.

This step is important for maintaining business interest and ensuring the stability of Ukrainian grain exports. International cooperation in this matter shows the readiness of partner countries to support Ukraine in the face of global economic challenges.
