In June of this year, cargo turnover of Ukrainian ports decreased by 15%, amounting to 7 million tons, which is a noticeable decline compared to May (8.26 million tons) and April (9.91 million tons). However, compared to June of last year, the volume of congestion increased by one and a half times. These data were provided by the press service of the Administration of Sea Ports of Ukraine.

Grain crops were the main cargo handled by Ukrainian ports in June. The total volume of transshipment of these goods amounted to 4.4 million tons, which is 1 million tons more than in June 2023 (3.4 million tons). There is also a significant increase in the volume of ore cargoes to 1.2 million tons, which is 1 million tons more than last year in the same period (0.2 million tons).

Against the background of these data, it should be noted that the majority of Ukraine's foreign trade is carried out through the ports of the Danube and Great Odesa, however, in June of this year, the volume of exports through the Danube ports decreased to 1.3-1.5 million tons. The head of the Administration of Sea Ports of Ukraine, Yuriy Lytvyn, explained this by the unblocking of Odesa ports and the seasonal decline in export volumes.

In addition, a significant part of sea transportation is the "Ukrainian Corridor", through which 5.6 million tons of cargo were transported in June, of which 3.6 million tons were products of Ukrainian farmers.

In general, in the first six months of 2024, Ukrainian ports handled 53 million tons of cargo and handled 6,046 vessels. This is significantly higher than the corresponding figures of June 2023 (31.2 million tons).

Thus, regardless of temporary fluctuations, Ukrainian seaports remain an important chain of international trade transport, contributing to the country's export opportunities and ensuring the needs of imported goods.
