The yield of potatoes at the Rast-Agro farm in the Dnipropetrovsk region this year may decrease by 20-30% compared to last season due to the negative impact of spring frosts. The owner of the enterprise Andriy Romaniv shared this information in an interview with the magazine "Gardening in Ukrainian".

"Spring frosts reached -3°C, and at ground level probably -5°C," he explained. "Potatoes are partially frozen. Of our 7 hectares of potato field, 3 hectares were protected with agrofibre and survived the frost without loss. The remaining 4 hectares were affected, although total loss was avoided. This happened for the first time due to the weather conditions, which were unpredictable for us this year."

During the summer period, potato plants damaged by frost recovered, Romanov noted. However, he emphasized that this year a different yield and changed ripening dates are expected, but in general the farm managed to avoid product losses.

"Potatoes are a resilient crop that can recover, but yields this season will be low, which could make production less profitable," the grower concluded. "We also had cabbage, onion and carrot plantings that survived the frost without any problems, which allowed us to save some of the crop."

Uncertain weather conditions and their impact on productivity remain an important aspect for the agricultural sector of Ukraine, in particular for producers of oil crops, which are constantly faced with the challenges of natural phenomena.
