According to the State Statistics Service, Ukraine produced 459.5 thousand tons of raw milk in February this year, which is 1% more than in January of the same year and 0.1% more than in February 2023. According to Giorgi Kukhaleishvili, an analyst at the Association of Milk Producers, these figures indicate that dairy processing companies did not experience a shortage of raw materials.

In January-February 2024, milk yields amounted to 915.5 thousand tons, which is 0.1% less than in the corresponding period last year. Raw milk production enterprises contributed 51%, while households contributed 49%.

It is noted that in February the amount of milk produced on industrial farms increased compared to the previous month, but it remained stable compared to February last year. Thus, industrial farms produced 233.9 thousand tons of raw milk, which is 4% less than in January, but 7.9% more than in February 2023.

Against this background, milk yields in households increased by 6% compared to January, but decreased by 8% compared to February 2023. At the same time, during the analyzed period, households produced 438.6 thousand tons of raw milk, which is 8% less than last year.

Expert Giorgi Kukhaleishvili emphasizes that winter months are usually characterized by a decrease in milk yield, but an increase in milk production is expected in the spring. During this period, known as "big milk", Ukraine sees an increase in raw milk production, especially in households.

In February 2024, milk production increased in most regions of Ukraine. For example, the increase was 8% in Mykolaiv region, 4% in Cherkasy region, 3% in Khmelnytsky region, 7% in Chernihiv region, 5% in Zaporizhzhia region, 2% in Poltava region, 7% in Kharkiv region, 6% in Ternopil region, 6% in Donetsk region, 2% in Kyiv region, 1% in Dnipropetrovs'k region and 0.3% in Kirovohrad region.
