The first experiment on growing winter flax in Ukraine: Hope for French selection

Ukraine, a country with a centuries-old history of agriculture, is marked by the opening of a new stage of agricultural experimentation. For the first time in the history of our country, experimental plots for planting winter flax were established, which opens up new prospects for the development of the agricultural sector.

  In three regions of Ukraine, namely in Zhytomyr, Ternopil, and Sumy, a historic experiment was launched - for the first time, experimental plots of winter flax were established as part of the MA'RIJANNI HEMP INDUSTRIAL PARK project. The initiator of this innovative event is Michel Tereshchenko, who shared the details.

Winter flax, known for its high-quality fibers, can become a promising crop for Ukrainian farmers. Taking into account the favorable climate and soil conditions in different regions of the country, this experiment can determine the optimal conditions for its cultivation. The initiative to plant winter flax has not only economic potential, but can also contribute to the sustainable development of the agricultural sector.

Michel Tereshchenko explains that this flax of French selection has a unique adaptability to climate changes. This is especially relevant in the winter period, when there are noticeably fewer cold days, and spring is characterized by warmth and dryness. The initiator believes that changing the structure of winter crops is a necessary step in the context of modern climatic realities.

Established winter flax plantations are marked by great unpredictability: they were sown already in the first decade of October. It is worth noting that long-leaved flax actually disappeared in the country due to the limited sowing time - until the end of April. However, the French version allows it to be sown in February-March, which is a big improvement.

According to Tereshchenko, winter flax can develop a root system in autumn, and active growth occurs at the end of April - beginning of May, when temperatures have not yet reached high values. This can lead to a significant increase in crop height, which is economically beneficial. They plan to check the results of the experiment and the benefits of winter flax in the spring.

It should be noted that the success of this experiment will be measured not only by the harvest, but also by the contribution to the stability and sustainability of the Ukrainian agricultural sector. Observation and analysis of the results of the given stage of agricultural experimentation will be key stages for the further development of this promising industry.
