Autumn sowing of wheat in Ukraine: regional distribution and yield

Autumn is the time when Ukrainian farmers actively sow wheat, preparing for the next harvest. At the beginning of October 2023, Ukrainian agriculture can boast of impressive achievements in the field of sowing. According to data provided by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, the total sown area is already 2.99 million hectares, and this is only at the beginning of the planned crop rotation season. Of this amount, almost 1.9 million hectares are under grain crops.

This impressive number testifies to the great contribution of farmers to the development of the agricultural sector of Ukraine. Despite the challenges associated with climate change and economic factors, Ukrainian farmers continue to bear fruit, providing the nation with quality products and contributing to the increase in agricultural exports.

Wheat, barley, corn and soybeans are among the most popular crops sown at this stage. Cereal crops remain an important pillar of Ukrainian exports, and the high volume of sowing shows the country's readiness to meet demand on the world market.

    The situation by region

North: In the north of Ukraine, which includes Chernihiv, Sumy, and Poltava regions, autumn sowing of wheat makes up a significant part of the total area. Thanks to favorable climatic conditions, farmers in this region expect high yields.

Measures: In Western Ukraine, in particular in the Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk and Ternopil regions, wheat is also actively sown. Here, yield can affect the economic development of the region.

Southern Corridor: In the Southern Corridor region, which covers Odesa, Mykolaiv and Kherson regions, wheat sowing is of strategic importance for export. This region is a key player in growing and exporting wheat abroad.

Eastern Focus: In the east of Ukraine, including the Kharkiv and Donetsk regions, farmers also pay great attention to sowing wheat. In the conditions of the modern market, it is important to ensure a sustainable harvest to meet the demand for food products and exports.

Central Region: Active sowing of wheat is also observed in the central part of the country, such regions as Kyiv and Vinnytsia. This region is important for the internal market and ensuring food security.
Southern Slope: In the Zaporizhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions, located on the southern slope of Ukraine, autumn sowing of wheat is also underway. The harvest in this region is of great importance for the development of the agricultural sector.

Autumn sowing of wheat in Ukraine is an important step to ensure food security and foreign exports. Regional distribution allows the country to make maximum use of its agricultural potential and promote sustainable economic growth.
