  • Grain deal: Evidence of sabotage by Russia found by the DIU
    Опубликовано: 2023-07-26 11:06:57

The Ukrainian intelligence service, the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, has received a document confirming the sabotage of the grain deal with Russia. According to the report, the main goal of the Russians was to minimize the amount of food exported from Ukraine. This information was provided by the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine.

The classified document focuses on the technologies used to impede the implementation of the grain corridor, which led to the breakdown of the agreement. The report states that the Russian side of the Joint Coordination Center was tasked with minimizing the amount of grain exported under the agreement. In particular, ship inspections were conducted, and on their basis, participation in the Initiative was restricted for 46 ships, and the movement of 303 ships was limited for 342 days.

The sabotage of the grain deal had several stages. The first stage involved the suspension of Russia's participation in the agreement from October 29 to November 3, 2022, which led to a decrease in grain exports from 4.2 million tons in October to 2.6 million tons in November.

The next stage involved restricting the access of ships to Pivdennyi port, reducing the number of inspection teams and stopping the registration of grain carriers.

According to the report, the smallest amount of grain (7.8 million tons) was exported from Ukrainian ports under the agreement during the third stage from March 19 to July 17, 2023.

Particular attention is paid to the disruption of grain supplies under the World Food Program. The document notes that the registration of vessels operating under the WFP line was carried out only after written commitments not to participate in such actions.

The document confirms that the actions aimed at disrupting the grain deal were part of a pre-designed plan. The intelligence warns that if the agreement is extended, Russia will use similar experience to effectively break the agreements. These actions taken by the Russian side pose a threat to Ukraine's port infrastructure and overall stability in the region.
