Poultry prices in Ukraine: how the cost of a popular product has changed

In Ukraine, poultry prices have changed noticeably in recent months. Analysts have recorded both growth and temporary periods of stability in the market for this product, which traditionally remains one of the most affordable sources of protein for Ukrainians.

According to the latest data, chicken — especially fillets and legs — continues to hold leading positions among the most popular types of meat. The main changes in cost are related to seasonality, costs for feed, energy resources, as well as logistics and the impact of the war.

Experts note that the average price per kilogram of chicken fillet in some regions of Ukraine has increased by 5–8% compared to the beginning of the year. For example, if in January the cost was about 120 hryvnias per kilogram, then now it fluctuates within 126–130 hryvnias.

Prices for legs and wings have increased less noticeably — by 2–4%. This is due to greater competition among producers, as well as the reorientation of some consumers to cheaper meat options. In addition, some farms have adapted to the new economic conditions and were able to partially restrain the increase in prices.

Import factors are also important. Due to restrictions on imports from certain countries, Ukrainian producers have received more opportunities to sell products on the domestic market, which has supported stable demand, but at the same time limited the fall in prices.

In the future, experts do not expect sharp jumps in the cost of poultry meat, but they advise to closely monitor the market. The situation on the foreign exchange market, prices for feed raw materials and energy resources may again affect the formation of the final cost of the product for the consumer.
