Prices for chicken eggs in Ukraine continue to fall: what caused the price drop

A steady decline in prices for chicken eggs has been recorded in Ukraine. Compared to the peak indicators of last fall, the cost of this product has almost halved, which is good news for consumers.

Experts note that such dynamics are associated with seasonal factors and the stabilization of production. After a rapid increase in prices in the second half of 2023, with the beginning of spring 2024, the situation began to gradually level off. Manufacturers increased production volumes and also resumed deliveries, which contributed to the price drop.

As of April 2024, the average cost of a dozen eggs in retail trade ranges from 35 to 45 hryvnias, while in the fall of last year prices reached 70–80 hryvnias. The decrease in cost is especially noticeable in large supermarkets and wholesale markets, where supply significantly exceeds demand.

Market analysts also point to increased competition between producers. Some of the large poultry farms that suspended operations during the crisis have re-entered the market. This has not only stabilized supply, but also forced market players to reconsider pricing in order to retain buyers.

In addition, weather and seasonality also play a role. The spring period is traditionally characterized by an increase in egg production in chickens, which naturally increases the number of eggs on the market. In addition, demand has decreased against the backdrop of the post-holiday period, which also affected the decline in prices.

Experts expect that prices may decrease slightly by summer, but then they will gradually begin to grow again due to a decrease in seasonal supply. Despite this, the current situation is a positive signal for both consumers and producers, who have had a chance to resume stable work after a difficult period.
