As of November 8, 2024, about 11 million tons of sugar beets were harvested in Ukraine. The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food informs about this. Harvesting continues in 16 regions, where farmers are actively digging up this valuable crop, which is used for sugar production.
The total area of sugar beet harvesting is currently 223.2 thousand hectares, which is 87% of the planned volume. The total harvest to date has reached 10.7 million tons, and this figure continues to grow every day, because the harvest is not yet complete.
Several oblasts are in the lead in terms of the gross volume of sugar beet harvest. Vinnytsia ranked first with a result of 2.374 million tons, followed by Khmelnytskyi with 2.09 million tons, and Ternopil Oblast collected 1.251 million tons. Poltava region also shows high performance, having secured more than a million tons of harvest.
In addition to the gross collection, some regions show an impressive yield of this crop. Lviv Oblast became the leader here, where the average yield reached 681.5 quintals per hectare. Bukovyna is in second place with a result of 635.3 quintals per hectare, and Ternopil Region is in third place with 579.3 quintals per hectare. Khmelnytskyi and Chernihiv regions also entered the top five in yield.
This year's sugar beet harvest is important for ensuring Ukraine's internal sugar needs. According to the representatives of the agrarian sector, the collected amount will allow to satisfy the demand both in the domestic market and to provide a certain reserve for export. Experts also emphasize that despite the difficult climatic conditions of this season, farmers managed to achieve good results thanks to the introduction of the latest technologies and high-yielding varieties.
Currently, farmers continue to complete the harvest, and the total volume is expected to increase further.
