Since the beginning of 2024, demining of more than 200,000 hectares of fertile land has been successfully completed in Ukraine, which were handed over to farmers for further use. Only in August of this year, agricultural producers received more than 20,000 hectares of cleared plots, which significantly contributes to the restoration of agricultural production in the country.
This was announced by the Minister of Economy Yuliya Svyridenko during the presentation of the "Demining Ukraine" report in Kyiv, the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine reports. According to her, August became an important month for demining, as a significant amount of cleared land was transferred for agricultural purposes during this period.
"Cleaning the land of mines and explosives is critically important for the return of life to the de-occupied and front-line territories. This gives people the opportunity to work on their land, and the regions - the opportunity for further development," Svyridenko emphasized.
The government is actively working to speed up the demining process by increasing the number of equipment and personnel involved in this activity. There are currently 53 mine action operators operating in Ukraine, which is almost twice as many as at the beginning of the year. This makes it possible to cope more effectively with large-scale demining tasks.
Since the beginning of the year, mine action operators have surveyed more than 224,000 hectares of territory, of which almost 23,400 hectares were cleared in August. Most of the land was surveyed in the following regions: Kherson (184.5 thousand hectares since the beginning of the year, of which 17.6 thousand in August), Kharkiv (17.5 thousand hectares since the beginning of the year, of which 2.4 thousand in August) and Mykolaivska (12.1 thousand hectares since the beginning of the year, of which 1.1 thousand in August).
These efforts significantly improve the conditions for the restoration of agricultural production and support the economic development of the affected regions, ensuring the safe use of land for farmers.
