In March this year, Ukraine imported an unusually large amount of cheese compared to previous years. The shelves of local stores are filled with more and more Polish cheese, which is sold much cheaper than domestic cheese.
According to INFAGRO, the cheese market in Ukraine is at a turning point. Analysts note that if this trend continues, there may be a change in the market between producers.
Experts estimate that Ukraine imported a record high volume of cheese in March compared to previous years.
Consumers are increasingly choosing European cheese, which in most cases is available at a more attractive price than domestic cheese. This leads to an increase in the amount of Polish cheese on store shelves.
Experts believe that the increase in cheese production in Poland may be due to the expectation of deliveries to Ukraine. This puts domestic cheese producers at risk.
In January 2024, cheese imports increased by 42% compared to the same period in 2022, as the entry price of imported European cheese remains lower than domestic cheese.
Experts predict that in 2024, cheese imports may increase by 15-20%, which will complicate the situation for domestic cheese producers.
