According to the National Research Center "Institute of Agrarian Economics", in 2023, Ukraine imported agricultural products worth 7.1 billion USD. This is 13% more than in the previous year, when the volume of imports amounted to USD 6.3 billion.
It is worth noting that the EU member states remain the main suppliers of agricultural products to Ukraine. In 2023, the value of supplies from the EU increased by 9% compared to the previous year and amounted to 3,680 million USD, which is more than half of domestic imports of agricultural products - 51.6%.
Imports from other regions are much smaller. The volume of food supplies from Asia amounted to 19.1%, from Latin America - 7.2%, from Africa - 4.6%. At the same time, all of them were also able to increase sales of agricultural products for the domestic market of Ukraine.
Since 2017, Poland has maintained its leadership among agricultural suppliers to Ukraine. In 2023, it sold agricultural goods worth USD 950 million, which exceeded the previous year's figure of USD 881 million.
The top 10 importers of agricultural products to Ukraine are as follows: Poland, Turkey, Germany, Italy, Norway, France, the Netherlands, the United States of America, Spain, and China.
The structure of foreign supplies of agricultural goods to Ukraine is dominated by several product groups, such as fruits, berries and nuts, fish and seafood, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, various food products, oilseeds and fruits, waste and animal feed, and vegetables. These products account for 63% of the value of agricultural imports.
In 2023, food imports to Ukraine became the fourth largest in terms of value since independence, demonstrating the country's ability to recover from Russian aggression by adapting businesses and consumers to war conditions.
