In August 2023, Ukraine saw an increase in exports of condensed milk and cream, fermented milk products, butter, and cheese, mainly to Moldova and other CIS countries. At the same time, however, supplies of condensed milk and ice cream to foreign markets decreased, leading to an overall decline in dairy exports last month.

According to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine (SSSU), in August 2023, the country exported 9.5 thousand tons of dairy products worth about USD 20 million. Export volumes, both in physical volume and in monetary terms, increased by 4% compared to July 2023.

The largest categories of dairy exports in monetary terms were as follows:

Milk and cream, condensed - 32%;
Cheese - 20%;
Ice cream - 19%;
Butter - 16%.
According to Giorgi Kukhaleishvili, analyst of the Association of Milk Producers, a significant increase in exports occurred in the categories of milk and cream, condensed, fermented milk products, butter and cheese, and this was one of the key trends of the past month. According to the analyst, the supply of condensed milk and cream increased by 12%, cheese - by 8%, butter - by 7%.

However, not all product categories showed such a positive trend. According to the analysis, shipments of condensed milk and ice cream decreased by 5%, which was noted as a factor that affected the total export of dairy products.

Currently, Ukrainian producers are actively working to improve the competitiveness of their products in the international market, taking into account the dynamics of demand and consumer preferences.
