The Ukrainian sugar market may get a new player. The Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine (AMCU) has started consideration of a case regarding possible concentration in the sugar market. The application of Radekhivskyi Sugar Limited Liability Company to acquire the assets of Hnidavskyi Sugar Plant Private Joint Stock Company was the reason for this consideration.

This was reported by the press service of the AMCU in its message.

"The Committee has started consideration of the case on concentration in the form of acquisition by Radekhivskyi Sugar Limited Liability Company of the assets of Hnidavskyi Sugar Plant Private Joint Stock Company, which ensure the production of white (beet) sugar," the statement said.

The company in question, Radekhivskyi Sugar LLC, is owned by the German company Pfeifer & Langen GmbH & Co. KG. Its production facilities are located in Radekhiv (Lviv region), as well as in Chortkiv, Khorostkiv, Koziv and Zbarazh (Ternopil region).

According to YouControl, the ultimate beneficiary of Radekhivskyi Sugar LLC is Volodymyr Matkivskyi.

The sugar beet processing capacity per day at the sugar factories belonging to this group ranges from 4000 to 8000 tons.

Pfeifer & Langen entered the Ukrainian market in 2006 by establishing a joint venture, Western Sugar Group. This German company used this facility to distribute sugar produced in Poland and Germany under its own trademarks.

There are 33 sugar factories in Ukraine. It is important to note that in 2022, ten of them failed to start processing sugar beet.
