From April 1, 2025, Ukraine will start an annual spring-summer spawning ban on fishing aquatic bioresources, which will last until the end of the spawning period. This is an important stage in the reproduction of fish populations in rivers, lakes and estuaries, which contributes to the conservation of water resources and maintaining the health of fish ecosystems, ProAgro Group reports.
According to the State Fisheries Agency of Ukraine, during the spawning ban, fishing is allowed only within specially designated zones. During this period, fishing is allowed only from the shore outside the spawning grounds, using fishing rods with no more than two hooks per person, or spinning with one artificial bait. The list of zones prohibited for fishing, as well as the duration of the ban, can be found in Appendix No. 3 to the Rules of Amateur Fishing.
Additionally, to create favorable conditions for spawning, a ban on the movement of vehicles and motor vessels is introduced in the waters of Ukraine, except for those used by fish protection authorities to monitor compliance with the rules. This is an important measure to preserve the ecosystems of water bodies and ensure the safety of fish during this period.
Spawning is critically important for the restoration of fish populations, because it is at this time that fish reproduce, which affects future stocks of aquatic bioresources. Compliance with the rules of the spawning ban allows you to avoid overfishing during this sensitive period and contributes to the restoration of fish stocks in the long term.
Severe penalties are provided for violation of the established rules. Violators may be subject to administrative fines, as well as criminal liability. In addition, fishermen who do not comply with the bans will be forced to compensate for the damage caused to the fishery.
The introduction of such measures is aimed at maintaining ecological balance in Ukraine and protecting water resources, which are important not only for fishing, but also for ensuring the country's food security in the future.
