As part of the Berlin Conference of Agriculture Ministers of Ukraine, Great Britain and Lithuania, an updated memorandum was signed on the launch of the Grain Verification Scheme (GVS), which will be an important step in the fight against the illegal export of Ukrainian grain, especially from the temporarily occupied territories.

As reported by the Head of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, Vitaliy Koval, this initiative aims to create a new system for the clear identification and blocking of illegally exported Ukrainian grain. According to him, the project lays the foundation for a strategic partnership between Ukraine and Great Britain and opens up prospects for long-term cooperation.

The first stage of the GVS implementation will be deployed in Lithuania, where the port of Klaipeda will become the main hub for verifying the origin of agricultural products from Ukraine. Lithuania has become a key link in ensuring transparency and legality of the transportation of Ukrainian grain to international markets.

The GVS system, which uses innovative technologies, allows you to track the origin of grain with high accuracy and prevent its illegal transportation. British developers have created an advanced database that not only identifies grain, but also provides transparency in the agricultural market. This protects the interests of Ukrainian farmers, ensuring that their products do not fall into the hands of illegal traders.

At the end of 2024, the first version of this system was signed, which became the basis for further cooperation. Lithuania confirmed its desire to introduce inspections of Ukrainian grain in its ports, which strengthens control over its movement.

In addition, within the framework of this initiative, it is planned to strengthen technical cooperation between the countries, in particular in matters of plant health and mutual exchange of experience. The parties also agreed to introduce requirements for the transportation of plant products that will meet European Union standards, which will ensure effective inspection without the need for re-inspection in Ukraine in exceptional cases.
