The cost of carrots continues to rise in Ukraine, which is causing concern among consumers and market participants. Over the past week, prices for this vegetable have increased by 15% and currently amount to 23–30 UAH per kilogram, depending on the quality and volume of the batch.
According to analysts from the EastFruit project, the reason for the increase in price was active demand from wholesalers and retail chains, as well as a reduction in the supply of substandard products. Many farmers are holding back the sale of high-quality carrots, hoping for a further increase in prices.
Today, carrots are sold on average 2.6 times more expensive than in the same period last year. Despite the increase in price, demand for products remains consistently high. Experts do not rule out that next week producers will try to raise prices again.
In addition to carrots, price increases are also observed for other vegetables. In particular, high-quality white cabbage currently costs UAH 25–35/kg, and its supply on the market remains limited. As for potatoes, their price has increased by 85% compared to the same period last year. The main reason was a significant reduction in the harvest due to the summer drought that hit the main growing regions.
At the same time, the market is experiencing a decline in onion prices. The drop in value is explained by a decrease in demand for medium and low-quality products, which are increasingly offered by producers.
The situation on the Ukrainian vegetable market remains dynamic. Market participants expect that seasonal fluctuations and weather factors will continue to affect prices. Consumers are advised to closely monitor changes in order to optimize food costs.
