Since the beginning of 2024, farmers in Ukraine have received more than 255 thousand hectares of demined and surveyed agricultural land by sappers. Of these, almost 25 thousand hectares were transferred to farmers in November. These results were announced by the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine.
"In November, sappers passed an important milestone by surveying more than 300 thousand hectares of land. More than 280 thousand hectares have already been transferred for use to agricultural producers. The achievements in the Kherson region are especially impressive, where our sappers surveyed more than 250 thousand hectares, and almost 245 thousand hectares are already ready for use by farmers," said First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko.
These important steps were taken in the face of significant challenges, as most of the demining work was carried out in liberated territories, in particular in the Kherson region, which was affected by hostilities. Thanks to this, farmers gained access to previously contaminated areas, which will help restore production and improve the food situation in the country.
As for the most active regions, according to the Ministry of Economy, the most significant volumes of demining were carried out in the Kherson region, where 20.7 thousand hectares were cleared in November, and 251.1 thousand hectares since the beginning of the year. Mykolaiv region also showed good results, where 4.4 thousand hectares were cleared in November, and 20.9 thousand hectares since the beginning of the year. Kharkiv region is also actively being cleared: 1 thousand hectares were surveyed in November, and 22.5 thousand hectares since the beginning of the year.
Thanks to this progress, farmers have the opportunity to resume farming in previously contaminated areas. This contributes to an increase in agricultural production, which is critically important for the Ukrainian economy, especially in the context of war and post-war reconstruction.
These results were made possible by the effective work of sappers, who risk their lives every day, working in conditions of combat and increased danger. Their work is an important link in the restoration of agricultural infrastructure and in ensuring food security in Ukraine.
