  • Vegetable prices in Ukraine continue to rise: reasons and trends
    Опубликовано: 2024-10-23 18:05:56

In Ukraine, there is a long-term increase in vegetable prices, which is caused by a number of factors, including unfavorable weather conditions, low yields and quality of products. Almost all types of vegetables have become more expensive, and this trend looks set to continue.

The price increase of potatoes is especially noticeable, the price of which rose from 17 to 20 hryvnias per kilogram. The rise marks a new price level for consumers, who are increasingly feeling the burden of rising food costs. In addition, white cabbage also experienced an increase in price: its minimum price increased from 18 to 20 hryvnias per kilogram.

Onions, due to high demand and limited sales, also became more expensive. Now its wholesale prices start at 15 hryvnias per kilogram, while last week prices started at 12 hryvnias. Such growth is caused by the lack of goods on the market.

Cold weather conditions also negatively affected the supply of cucumbers, which led to a sharp increase in prices. Currently, producers are offering cucumbers at a price of 60-70 hryvnias per kilogram, while just a week ago prices ranged from 50-65 hryvnias. A similar situation is observed with greenhouse tomatoes, which rose in price from 30-60 hryvnias to 35-90 hryvnias per kilogram.

Cauliflower became more expensive, reaching prices of 40-45 hryvnias per kilogram, while last week the price was 30-40 hryvnias. In contrast, Beijing cabbage became cheaper: its price decreased from 35-40 hryvnias to 30-35 hryvnias per kilogram. The increase in the supply of eggplants also affected the market: prices fell from 30 to 25 hryvnias per kilogram. At the same time, the increased demand for pumpkins, especially on the eve of Halloween, led to an increase in prices for this vegetable - the lower limit increased from 30 to 34 hryvnias per kilogram.

In the green segment, dill prices increased from 40-120 to 80-170 hryvnias per kilogram, while green onions fell from 80-150 to 50-100 hryvnias per kilogram. Given these trends, Ukrainian consumers are likely to face further challenges in the form of higher vegetable prices, which may affect their daily spending.
