Ukrainian onions have risen in price by an average of 19% over the past week, analysts of the EastFruit project report. According to experts, trading activity in this segment has slightly increased, which allowed the owners to raise prices for this product. However, this applies mainly to high-quality onions.

As of May 7, high-quality onions are sold for 14 to 22 hryvnias/kg ($0.36-0.56/kg), while a week ago prices ranged from 18 hryvnias/kg ($0.46/kg).

According to experts, the reason for the increase in prices was the high demand for onions, as well as complaints about the insufficient supply of high-quality products.

Market participants anticipate further price increases for onions and acceleration of price growth due to further reduction in stocks.

Despite the price increase, the price of onions in Ukraine remains 58% lower than last year. For example, in May 2023, prices reached UAH 43-49/kg. Although medium-quality onions were predominant, high-quality onions were practically absent.
